4 Winter Makeup Looks and Trends We're Currently Obsessed With

Cold weather got you in a makeup rut? I love a good routine but sometimes giving your makeup bag a little shake up can be a lot of fun.

I’ve pulled together four winter makeup looks and trends we're currently obsessed with for the next time you feel like trying something different.

#1 The Ultra High Glossy Lips Trend

A glossy, glazed lip look is going nowhere anytime soon, but it does continue to get a little update each season. As for right now, super buttery, balmy formulas paired with a darker liner seem to be the combo of choice. You can keep it quite close to your natural lip tone for a more subtle look, or go bolder with a rich berry or cherry inspired shade.

How do I get the ultra high glossy lips look myself?

So this is an easy one, because you can literally use a liner and gloss combo of your choice to try it out at home. Reach for a liner colour that’s similar to the darkest shade of your natural lip and make sure to really line on that outer ridge of your lip. Using a finger, smudge it into the center of the lip a little until you get an almost ombre effect. You can then go in with your gloss or balm to give that high shine finish.

#2 The Barbiecore Makeup Trend

As if you didn’t already know, we are soon to be graced with the Barbie movie and part of the build up has been a juggernaut marketing campaign featuring campaigns with 100s of brands. The result? Hot Barbie pink everywhereeeeee - including in your makeup. At it’s heart, Barbiecore is about having fun and channeling your inner Barbie - with lots of glitter and hot pink of course!

How do I get the Barbie look myself?

There’s no one way to get the look, I like to think of it like doing your makeup the way your inner child would want. Think white tight liner, inner corner highlight, big fluffy lashes, glitter and of course, plenty of hot pink across the lips, cheeks and even eyes.

#3 The Latte Makeup Look

Like the name suggests, this is makeup focused around warm coffee-brown tones - quite bronzy and including a soft brown eye look. It’s the perfect look to take into Euro summer or to help you escape the Aussie winter. If you have a paler skin tone, this can absolutely still work for you, you maybe just want to reach for bronzer that has more neutral undertones.

How do I get the latte makeup look myself?

Truthfully, this is another easy one to try - the goal here is to just layer different bronze tones to help create depth and light. To start you can use a glowy primer or some bronzing drops in moisturiser to help get that base going in the right direction. Then we go in with cream bronzer, to help frame the face and build definition, including taking it across the eyelids. You can add a light base here if you feel like you need it. Finish it off with a radiant bronzing formula across the centre of the eyes and up across the cheekbones.

#4 The Cloud Skin Makeup Trend

It’s a classic - makeup trends coming back in with a cute new name. Cloud skin is basically an ode to the soft matte finish we all tried to achieve when we first learnt about makeup, but a little more polished and sophisticated. It’s all about using a light hand when it comes to your products and being quite specific with the placement. The end look is soft and defined and pretty but with just enough glow and colour that you don’t look one dimensional.

How do I get the cloud skin look myself?

I recommend doing a spot conceal or colour correcting primer first, to help neutralise the skin tone. Then use a cream bronzer and blush in an underpainting technique to bring that definition to your face. You can then just add some foundation where you need it - mostly through the T-zone. For a more dry skin type, a satin or matte finish liquid formula might be best, whilst a more oily skin type could work with just a matte powder foundation applied with a light hand. I then like to use a light layer of a luminous powder concentrated across the top of the cheek bone, with a little along the brow bone and cupids bow. If you need to bring back some colour to the cheeks, just finish it off with a little powder blush.
